RnB / Neo Soul Singer Peri X will host a BlueJay session on Thursday September 7th at 8pm and we are so hyped! We caught up with her to find out a little bit more about her and what we can expect from her BlueJay session.
My name is Peri, I am a 25-year-old young woman with a Turkish Cypriot background, born and raised in the heart of South East London. I have aspired to be a singer since I could talk! I’m about making music that’s real that either I’ve experienced or something I’ve witnessed somebody else go through.
Music to me is like my drug. I get a fix out of creating music and even more so seeing people’s reactions when the music is released. It heals me through the worst days and lifts me on the best. There really are no words to describe what music does to me, it’s more a feeling. The feeling of happiness.
I would say my idols growing up were a mix between Sade and Michael Jackson. However, in today’s style of music I would say artists like SZA and Jhene, purely for the realness in their music.
My dad bought me up on Motown and my brother used to play the saxophone when I was young, so I grew up on a bit of jazz too. I like to think that soulful music I listened to growing up comes out in my vocals.
A pre-drink tune for me can’t be anything mellow it has to get me hype! I would usually listen to afrotrap, funky house or old school hip hop, 3 genres of music that will always get me up dancing!
An ideal night out for me is somewhere that I don’t have to get too dressed up for, I prefer the casual underground setting myself. The night has to however include trap, RnB, hip hop and afrobeats. I’m very particular where I go out depending on music.
My guilty pleasures would have to be slow jams. I’m obsessed with old school slow jams. I grew up in the 90s so when slow jams were huge! No matter what mood I was in I would always chose to listen to slow jams. Donell jones, joe, jagged edge and 112 being some of my favourite.
From my Bluejay playlist you can expect music that I grew up on, so I might take you all the way back to the people that influence me today. I will also play music from artists that inspire me on a daily basis and people I have worked with also.
