We are so excited to announce that Singer/Songwriter Luke Edney will host a BlueJay session on Sunday August 20th at 9pm!
Surrey born Luke started his journey into music at any early age after his Grandfather left him a guitar. Luke perfected his guitar skills throughout his teenage years and began to start songwriting. He went on to study at The Academy Of Contemporary Music in Surrey and joined band “Andy Stedman & The Handsome Devils” until he felt the urge to go solo and pursue his own songwriting. You will now find Luke performing at various venues around Surrey or in the recording studio working on new music. We can’t wait to hear what he’s got in store for his BlueJay session!
We caught up with Luke to find out more.
I’m an independent rock/pop/folk artist/producer from Surrey, London. I’m a self-taught guitarist, singer, and producer, and have been playing music for over 10 years now. I want to try and crack the mainstream but bring back a home-grown classic rock sound, that often gets over-looked in today’s music industry.
Music to me is a global language and entity. You could be the most enclosed, unconfident person, and then find yourself dancing to a song at a festival, or a live venue, and completely come out of your shell and find yourself talking and being with all these people who feel the same way you never thought you could. For me, it’s life. It boosts my mood when I’m down, it makes me think about things in a more philosophical way some times, and it can just speak to you and heal you like no human interaction ever could.
For me growing up as a guitarist and singer, I was always drawn to the people that could just BE, all on their own. People like Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, John Mayer, Phil Collins, Stevie Wonder, Johnny Cash. They have their own being, and their own energy that makes them be able to just be their own artist, and express and sell themselves as what they know they’re good at.
A lot of Nirvana and Eminem! I think the first CD I actually bought was an Eminem record. My folks have always been in to soul, Motown, and Northern Soul, so I heard a lot of that growing up and was therefore influenced vocally, especially. But as a pre-teen, my own thing at the time was actually mainly rap and hip-hop. Eventually into my teens I spent a lot of time listening to classic Rock, country and rock n roll.
Depends what the drinks are, or rather, where the drinks are. If I’m going out with the lads I’ll probably put on a current pop banger. Recently it’s been “You Don’t Know Me” by Jax Jones ft. Raye for me, or “On My Mind” by The Disciples.
I’m a pretty easy guy to please. I’m usually found at my local catching up on some much needed beer time. But I guess an ideal night for me isn’t necessarily where, but who I’m with. So if I’m out with a big bunch of my friends getting on the drinks, I’m pretty happy!
I smoke a lot. and I guess society has made it a “guilty” pleasure, but I’m pretty happy about smoking. Food wise, it’s a 20 chicken nugget share box all to myself, as I’m quite health conscious food wise.
Simply, great tunes. Different genres, different eras, but just great tracks. Oh, and maybe a couple of mine as well as I’ve just released a new single!
