Southampton based Singer/Songwriter Chelange will host a BlueJay session on Wednesday November 8th at 7pm and we are so hyped!
Born and raised in Trinidad, Chelange has an eclectic sound influenced by different cultures. His musical roots originate in church and he has featured on several episodes of ‘Songs of Praise’. Since appearing on the X factor in 2007 and The Voice in 2013, he has been performing around the country, including at ‘Big Church Day Out’ festival. Chelange’s most recent achievement is his incredible 6 track EP ‘Supernatural’ which he not only performs on but also wrote and co-produced. We caught up with him to find out what we can expect from his BlueJay session.
I’m all about improvement and discovering greatness, I believe that everyone has greatness inside of them. I am on a quest to find my greatness.
Music means expression to me, bringing out some of what you cannot say in words. It is also a platform that can be used to bring people together and set aside differences. In short, music means everything to me; no matter how hard it gets, I cannot help but continue to return and explore different avenues in order to succeed.
My musical development has been inspired by Stevie wonder, Ray Charles, Lenny Kravitz, Israel Houghton and Seal.
Soca, Gospel, Reggae, Rock, Soul. From artists like Kirk Franklin to Rage against the machine.
Favourite pre-drink tune? I don’t really have one, but if I had to pick it would be anything that gets me energised for the night ahead. Something with a good beat!
One that involves good music and that I can dance to!
Pumping the brakes in time to a tune that is playing the radio when coming up to a traffic light so the car jerks in time with the song and also revving the engine to hit the key of the song playing!
My EP ‘Supernatural’ takes you on a journey. It’s an eclectic sound that infuses elements of 80’s rock and jazz fusion.
