Stop what you’re doing! You’re going to want to be a part of this. We’re pumped to announce that the guys over at Bass Matters will be hosting a residency made up of a series of weekly BlueJay sessions. If you’re a lover of quality, party music, this is everything you’ve been hoping for. If you haven’t heard of the guys, read on and you’ll understand exactly why you should be excited!
Tune into BlueJay every Thursday at 7pm from the 1st June for Bass Matters’ playlists!
Bass Matters is an independent music collective, focused on putting on nights that capture the vibe of the house parties we started with. Undersized rooms, big sound systems, and incredible tunes.
Music is everything to us. It’s all about the music at any Bass Matters night, and as we think all music is equal, so too are our events. No VIP packages, just everyone getting down to bass.
Oh man… Sir David Rodigan is a massive one. Just the most unlikely figurehead of the Jamaican sound in the UK, but he’s built up an enormous amount of respect just by being so blatantly passionate about the music and the culture. That’s kind of what we all aspire to reach really, not necessarily the level of influence he has, but to just let your work and your dedication say everything that needs to be said.
We all come from quite different musical backgrounds. Variety is something we’ve always tried to include in every line up we put together. Specialist nights are amazing, but I like to hear a stark difference between every DJ and even between songs. There’s value in every style and genre, no sense in limiting what you listen to, and that goes doubly for the club.
I think we collectively agree that Wheels by Flava D is the biggest banger ever made. It’s the kind of tune that would start a small riot in the right room. I saw Four Tet play the main stage at Field Day last year, and he dropped it and oh my… did I lose my cool.
Really terrible Reggaeton. You going to try and tell me ‘Gasolina’ isn’t an all time club anthem? Daddy Yankee needs a knighthood.
Bangers! (I don’t know if you can tell but we like bangers). We like to think you’re guaranteed big tunes from anything with our names on, whether it be in a mix or at the club. But this is the first time we’ve really sat down to compile proper playlists, so we’re making sure to include only our best tracks. Chief Seleketa will be making a mix packed full of Jamaican influence, gonna be plenty of Dancehall. Our other resident DJ, BMO, will be bringing a mix of world bass. With beats from Brazil to America, it’ll be 100% fire.
You heard it here first! If it’s bangers you’re seeking, Bass Matters will deliver!
If you’re keen to see Bass Matters live, they’ll be spinning plenty of dancehall & bassline bangers at Birthdays, Dalston on the 18th of June – tickets available here.
